POSITION SUMMARY

Play Day Cafe manages a full-service kitchen with healthy food prepared and ready to go!  The Families can enjoy fresh healthy food, so kids can refuel and quickly return to play!  The Prep Cook is responsible for the timely preparation and assembly of a fresh, quality product.  A fun, energetic, approachable and positive attitude are essential to be successful in this position!


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Prepare food items, such as sandwiches and salads, following approved procedures by measuring, portioning, cutting, slicing, cooking, mixing and assembling ingredients; ensuring freshness of ingredients; labelling prepped ingredients for freshness
    • Preparing, as directed, all food items following standard recipes and procedures within specified time limits
    • Ensure the equipment and facilities are kept clean and in accordance with health and safety regulations and facility procedures; and are used in an appropriate way
    • Grilling, baking, broiling, blending, etc. raw and prepped foods
    • Maintaining cooking line in a clean, sanitary, and safe manner; returning ingredients to storage after use to ensure freshness
    • Keeping uniforms and aprons “showplace clean”
    • Stocking/restocking items on line according to specifications
    • Washing and cleaning raw food products
    • Peeling, dicing, shredding, and slicing food products per facility procedures
    • Assisting in an entire team effort
    • Maintaining personal health and sanitation standards (washing hands when using restroom, etc.)
    • Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, taking out trash etc.
    • Represent a high-standard of customer service at all times
    • Performing other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Ability to work and be flexible with all shifts, weekends, holidays and special events
  • Prior experience in the restaurant or food industry required
  • Possession of ServSafe Food Handler Certification
  • CPR and First Aid certification is a plus
  • Ability to read, speak, write and understand English
  • Ability to maintain high-energy throughout the entire shift
  • Proficient interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to learn and use technical equipment (e.g. kitchen equipment, meat/cheese slicer, etc.)
  • Willingness to maintain a clean, healthy, and safe working environment
  • Ability to coordinate multiple activities with attention to detail
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals, work instructions; ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Comply with Personal Appearance and Hygiene policy that presents a professional appearance
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of workplace safety procedures
  • Self-motivated and learns quickly

Tasting and smelling abilities are required occasionally to distinguish with a degree of accuracy, differences or similarities in intensity or quality of flavors and/or odors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, water, cleaning detergents, food, paper debris, and hot water.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
